In celebration of its 50th birthday Sanrio has erected an 8-meter-tall balloon statue of its most popular character, Hello Kitty. The statue has been placed in Tokyo’s artificial island, Odaiba, and will stay there until August 22nd. Surrounding the statue is 28 additional balloons, each portraying different characters of the Sanrio universe(including Kiki & Lala, My Melody and many others). Throughout the day a fountain show periodically takes place and at dark this is accompanied by laser lights. Above is footage of the display uploaded to YouTube.
